Rosholt’s Ross qualifies for Cross Country State Meet

Rosholt High School senior Matt Ross advanced to the WIAA Division 3 Cross Country State Meet as an individual at the WIAA Division 3 Sectional at Athens Friday, Oct. 25.
Ross finished third overall in 16:53.6 to secure an individual berth to state, where he will compete for the third year in a row.
Ross placed 21st at state last year as a junior to help the Hornets finish as the Division 3 State Runner-up, while he finished 63rd as a sophomore on Rosholt’s team that placed third at state.
The Hornets finished sixth in the team standings, as Pacelli (68 points) and Marathon (87) qualified for state over 13th-ranked Athens (102), Stratford (104), Auburndale (114) and Rosholt (119).
Junior Nathan Kropidlowski finished 14th at the Sectional for the Rosholt boys, followed by junior Sam Trzebiatowski (30th), junior Anthony Bianco (34th), junior Conner McKay (57th), sophomore Marcus Stalter (77th) and freshman Johnathon Rutta (88th).
The Rosholt girls cross country team had its season come to an end at the Athens Sectional.
The Hornets placed sixth, as fifth-ranked Auburndale (57 points) and 16th-ranked Marathon (91) advanced to state over 13th-ranked Wisconsin Rapids Assumption (108), Edgar (123), Amherst (168) and Rosholt (181).
Senior Jenna Trzebiatowski finished 13th in 21:09.4 to lead the Hornets, while freshman Morgan Schnelle of Edgar placed fifth in 20:14.5 to secure the fifth and final individual qualifier for state.
Senior Jordan Zdroik was 28th in 22:05.1 for Rosholt, followed by junior Amber Studzinski (38th), freshman Sydney Trzebiatowski (41st) and junior Macey Check (61st).
Ross will compete in the Division 3 State Meet at The Ridges Golf Course in Wisconsin Rapids at 3:10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2.
