PORTAGE COUNTY – As the foam tombstones and purple lights of Halloween come down, turkeys and Thanksgiving decor are already sprouting up. Want to break into the spirit of fall and get ready for the holiday season this November? Here are some upcoming festivities in Portage County:

Learn about the extensive history of the turkey in American culture and discover why it is more than just a delicious main dish. UWSP students are hosting this educational and family-friendly event at Schmeeckle Reserve, weather permitting.

The PJ’s Live: Winter Music Series kicks off on Nov. 20 at 6 p.m. at PJ’s in SentryWorld

Stevens Point Community Turkey Trot, Nov. 28, Pfiffner Park
The annual Stevens Point Community Turkey Trot starts at 9 a.m. on Thanksgiving morning. The event starts at Pfiffner Pioneer Park in Stevens Point.
Participants are encouraged to donate a non-perishable food item before the run. The trot is a non-competitive 5k that offers locals a chance to give back on Thanksgiving.
