Suspect identified in Stevens Point shooting

STEVENS POINT – A West Palm Beach, FL, man is in custody after a shooting in the city of Stevens Point.
Stevens Point police say that Cristhian Maradiaga Martinez, 24, is in the Portage County Jail on attempted homicide and criminally endangering safety charges.
Shortly after 3 a.m. on Nov. 28, officers responded to a hotel that is under construction at 300 Division Street North in Stevens Point. There, officers found a man with multiple gunshot wounds.
Preliminary investigation indicated that the four individuals, including the victim and suspect, were temporarily residing within the premises while performing construction on the building. All four individuals are from out of state.
The 20-year-old victim, also from West Palm Beach, FL, is hospitalized in stable condition.
Agencies responding to the scene included Stevens Point Police Department, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Plover Police Department, UWSP Protective Services, and Stevens Point Fire Department.
No further information is being released at this time. The investigation is ongoing.
