STEVENS POINT – Local craftsman, Bolesław Kochanowski, was the recipient of a statewide award from the Polish American Congress – Wisconsin Division.
Kochanowski was one of four recipients of the 2019 Zablocki Civic Achievement Award, honored at the organization’s Independence Day/Veterans Day Luncheon in Milwaukee in November.
Boleslaw was recognized for accomplishments as a “nationally recognized craftsman and fine artist” in metal who has been a “dedicated advocate and supporter of Polish American causes.”
The award’s namesake, Clement Zablocki, was a Wisconsin congressman who served the United States in the House of Representatives for 35 years. During his time in office, Zablocki was “deeply committed to the freedom of Poland and the well-being of its people.”
Kochanowski was also noted as a past president of Polish Heritage Awareness Society.
Three of Boleslaw’s current projects are located in Stevens Point – “To the Point,” a roundabout installation; “Pinecons,” inspired by Polish Wycinanki; and “For Your Freedom and Ours,” part of the Cultural Commons project.
