STEVENS POINT – Stevens Point Parks commission members unanimously approved language changes that will allow an unleashed dog swimming area to begin development on the north side of Mead Park.
Officials carried the motion at a commission meeting on Dec. 4.
City leaders said there had been a significant public push for the “dog beach,” noting that social media polls have shown that community members would like to see the K-9 swimming area at Mead Park.
With the legal foundation in place, city officials will seek bids for the required park fencing. Construction of the dog swimming area could start as soon as this spring and be open for summer recreation. Guests can also freely use the beach as a swimming space.
Mead Park is located at 1201 W. Whitney St., Stevens Point.
