STEVENS POINT– College Possible is partnering with Stevens Point Area Senior High (SPASH) to make college a possibility.
College Possible is a nonprofit organization “making college admission and success possible for eligible students, through an intensive curriculum of near-peer coaching and support.”
In Wisconsin, College Possible is currently working with more than 1,500 high school and college students. Ninety-three percent of College Possible students earn admission to college.
In 2019-20, College Possible is helping 46 SPASH seniors submit college applications and pursue scholarships. In addition, there are 37 juniors who are receiving help preparing for the ACT and compiling their “top five” college lists. The majority of these students are the first ones in their families to go to college.
“We are extremely pleased with the success of our first year at SPASH and the strong start to our second year helping eligible students to get to and through college,” said Edie Turnbull, College Possible Milwaukee Executive Director. “The level of support from the school, state and local legislators, and the community has made our transition into Portage County an easy one, and we look forward to sharing more about our program with business and community leaders.”
Melinda P. Vang, a SPASH senior appreciates the help she receives through the program. “College Possible is always lending a helping hand whenever we need it,” she said. “This definitely makes me feel confident in myself and my college goals.”
