Dalkert appointed as new Family Court Commissioner

STEVENS POINT – Melissa Dalkert has been appointed as the Portage County Family Court Commissioner. She will assume the role in January, filling the position when current commissioner, Janet Roberts, retires
Dalkert has been an attorney in private practice, primarily in Waupaca County, as well as a part time court commissioner for Portage County.
“As Family Court Commissioner it is my goal to ensure that those who come before me, often during times of crisis, are heard, and treated fairly and respectfully,” Dalkert said.
During her career, she has worked as a private attorney, a staff attorney with the State of Wisconsin Public Defender’s Office, and as a court commissioner.
She was a long-time member and president of Portage County Legal Aid Society, Inc., a non-profit organization dedicated to providing civil legal assistance to individuals in poverty, primarily in family law matters. She is a past board member of Justiceworks, Ltd., an organization dedicated to advancing restorative justice, and is a board member of the Wisconsin Access to Justice Commission.
Dalkert received her undergraduate degree in political science from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point and received her law degree from Suffolk University Law School.
