STEVENS POINT – Patients and staff at the Marshfield Clinic Stevens Point Center were partially evacuated the morning of Dec. 27, due to a possible gas leak.
Wisconsin Public Service and Stevens Point Fire Department crews were on site and determined there was no gas issue.
“A few employees thought that they had smelled gas in the building,” said Jeff Starck, Marshfield Clinic media relations specialist. “Wisconsin Public Service and Stevens Point Fire Department were contacted, and the building was evacuated as a precaution. Both entities determined there was not a leak and the building was safe to resume seeing patients. The entire incident only lasted about 40 minutes.”
The false alarm caused a stir for those visiting the hospital. Local mother Ana Merchak was at the clinic when the evacuation happened.
“We were at Marshfield Clinic on 66 this morning for my son’s well-child exam,” Merchak said. “We had to be evacuated… due to a strong gas smell in the building.”
The Marshfield Clinic Stevens Point Center is located at 4100 WI-66, Stevens Point.
