Stevens Point Fire Department Explorer Post 242 to host fundraiser
For the City Times
STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point Fire Department Explorer Post No. 242 will host a steak and shrimp dinner as a fundraiser on Feb. 8, starting at 5 p.m., at the Moose Family Center, 1025 Second St. North, Stevens Point.
The dinner will also include a basket raffle with items and gift certificates donated by businesses and individuals from around Portage County.
Dinner tickets can be bought the night of the fundraiser at the door or prior to Feb. 8 at the Stevens Point Fire Department Headquarters, People’s Meat Market, or from any SPFD Explorer Post 242 member.
Proceeds will go to help students who can’t afford their yearly dues or activity fees and to send Explorer members to a yearly “Fire Exploring” competition at the Minnesota State Fair. The funds will also be used to buy uniforms and equipment for the post.
The Explorer program is designed to allow young adults ages 15-21, who may be interested in a career in emergency services, to gain valuable experience learning about all aspects of emergency services. Post meetings and activities include presentations and hands-on learning in firefighting, EMS, and other emergency response skills and tactics. The post meetings are held once a month, with other various trainings and community service activities throughout the year.
