STEVENS POINT – The Madison Mustangs and elementary students across the district had a chance to explore their creative side. The schools celebrated Global School Play Day (GSPD) on Feb. 5, giving students a chance to relax and enjoy a period of unstructured playtime.
“Classes from K through 6 participated in part or all-day play,” said Madison Principal Karl Bancker. “Kids built things out of boxes, played board games, created structures, solved problems cooperatively, and participated in dramatic play.”
GSPD is a grassroots effort created by educators to help stimulate a child’s imagination and creativity. According to school leaders, the event allows students to foster independence, boost creativity, and learn social skills.
“It was a great way to learn a little differently, break up the daily routine, and have some fun at the same time,” Bancker explained.
This year’s GSPD saw a total of 563,283 participants from over 70 nations.
