Amherst wins regional championship

AUBURNDALE – The Amherst wrestling team are regional champions after winning at the regional meet held at Auburndale High School on Feb. 15.

Amherst won with a team score of 229. Weyauwega-Fremont finished, second with a score of 199. Auburndale finished in third with 135 points followed by Pittsville (126), Rosholt (125), Almond-Bancroft/Pacelli (86), and Tri-County (37). Amherst will compete at team sectionals at Amherst High School on Feb. 18.

Individuals that qualified for sectionals had to finish first or second in their bracket at regionals.

Amherst has seven wrestlers moving onto sectionals. Three finished as regional champions and the other four finished second in their brackets. Regional champions for Amherst are Talon Armatoski (106), Mason Haas (152) and John Farkas (28/5). Finishing second for the Falcons and moving on are Bryce Bunting (113), Landon Moe (138), Bryce Wendlandt (145), and Colton Jakubek (220).

Rosholt has three regional champions and one second place finisher moving onto sectionals. Bo Niewiadomski (126), Adam Charnecke (170), and Reese Anderson (182) all finished as champions in their brackets and Blade Niewiadomski (152) was runner-up in his weight bracket.

Individual WIAA Sectionals for Division 3 will be held on Feb. 22 at Shawano High School.
