Pointers close out national qualifying with trio

STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point track and field teams had athletes competing at three different events with aspirations of qualifying for next week’s NCAA Indoor National Championships.
On March 6, a quartet of athletes competed at the Carthage Final Qualifier. On March 7, UWSP sent a small group to Wartburg while a vast majority of Pointers competed in the Multi-Activity Center it he Pointer Final Qualifier.
Adrienne Lewis (Kimberly) won the long jump at both Carthage and the Pointer Qualifier. Her best mark was at Carthage at 5.52 meters.
Larkin Hoepner (Eau Claire) won the shot put and weight throw today. Her distance in the shot was 43-03.75 (13.20 meters). She won the weight throw with a distance of 52-06.50 (16.01 meters).
Rebecca Alter (Trevor) won the 400-meter dash in a time of 1:02.13. Michelle Petkovsek (Waupaca) took first in the 800-meter run clocking a time of 2:18.35. Taylor Campbell (Dells) finished first in the 3,00-meter run with a time of 11:20.83.
The men earned a trio of runner-up finishes in the field events on March 7. OJ James (Milwaukee) leaped a distance of 19-05.50 (5.93 meters) to place second in the long jump. Caleb Carter (Lisle, IL) took second in the triple jump with a distance of 40-08.25 (12.40 meters). Blake Orr (Waupaca) came in second in the shot put with a throw of 49-10.50 (15.20 meters). He took second in the weight throw at Carthage on March 6.
Golden Cotton (Milwaukee) was runner-up in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.92.
