The perfect therapy: Dziaks celebrate 20 years at Village Gardens

PLOVER – Dawn Dziak and her husband, Keith, both grew up in the Stevens Point area. Dawn was raised on the family farm and grew up working with plants.
“I worked with plants right out of high school, growing up doing it with my sister at Tree Acres,” Dawn recalled.
Dawn then went to work for Lensmire’s Village Gardens in Plover.
“When the right time came, (Warren) brought me on as seasonal full time for another five years. Then my husband and I purchased it from him,” Dawn explained.
The couple then worked to carry on the vision of the previous owner at Village Gardens.
“I’d been doing it for so long working for him, it was time for me to work for myself,” Dawn explained. “We’ve changed things, but yet, it is still the same place. Things are the same as what they were 20 years ago. We just improved.”
After 20 years, the Dziaks carry on that legacy along with 10-15 employees at their 2811 Porter Court location.
“Without my staff, it may not be as successful as it is,” Dawn added.
“Our business stands out, first of all because it is local. We do the growing here; we don’t outsource our plants. We try to find unique and different things that (are) new to the market, as well as a lot that you just can’t find at the box store.
“Our main thing is to find unique things that other places don’t carry in our area.
Though the pair has maintained a successful business, she gives a nod back to her farming roots.
“I believe the farmers are the core of hard workers in the area,” she said.
Most of the Village Gardens products are hand planted and nurtured.
“I enjoy the planting a watching the plants grow from little to out the door and watching the smiles on the people as they walk in the door, cause nobody comes to our greenhouse and doesn’t smile.
“Plants are the perfect therapy for everybody’s world.”
