Portage County Solid Waste to reduce services
For the City Times
PORTAGE COUNTY – The Portage County Solid Waste Department is taking actions to avoid the spread of COVID-19 and thereby reducing some services.
“We provide an essential community service, with minimal staff, and need to ensure that staff remain virus-free and are able to provide waste and recycling disposal services,” a department release said.
As a result, these services have been suspended: Saturdays operation hours; all household hazardous waste and confidential shredding services; recycling of bulbs, ballasts, batteries, appliances with or without Freon, electronics, oil, oil filters, anti-freeze, and bulky plastics
“We are asking residents to not utilize our facility unless there’s an emergent need to do so, such as a water leak and items are too big for the curbside bin, or the trash is essential or critical to limiting exposure of COVID-19. Our focus is providing services to our commercial and business customers who provide collection service to households, organizations, and businesses across the region,” the release stated.
