Appreciation Applause: A night for those who serve
By Taylor J. Hale
STEVENS POINT – The city is asking residents to help honor first responders, hospital and nursing home staff, and all of those who are serving during the COVID-19 pandemic with an “Appreciation Applause” event.
Mayor Mike Wiza asks that residents step outside on to their porch to applaud those who are serving the community during these difficult times on April 27 at 7 p.m.
“Everyone will stand on their porch and collectively, as a community, give a big round of applause to those workers,” Wiza said. “You’ll be able to go out onto your porch and maybe talk to your neighbors on their porch.”
City leaders hope to see the applause last for one minute. Wiza said that he believes the event will bring neighbors closer together while honoring the countless health care, police and fire department personnel putting themselves at risk to serve.
To join in on honoring the dedicated staff serving our community, simply stand on your front porch on April 27 at 7 p.m. and applaud. Help spread joy to those serving the city during the COVID-19 pandemic by putting your hands together.
