Portage County to host agricultural hazardous waste collection

PORTAGE COUNTY – Due a grant from the Department of Ag, Trade, and Consumer Protection, Portage County Solid Waste is able to give farmers, owners of agricultural land, nurseries, and greenhouses an opportunity to properly dispose of unused or unwanted hazardous waste on June 11.
Accepted for a fee
Unwanted, unused, expired, or discontinued agricultural chemicals – pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, fertilizers; Other agricultural chemicals including but not limited to: oil based paint, solvents, degreasers, fuels, teat wash; Mercury or mercury containing devices, with a one pound minimum; Latex paints.
Free of charge
Used antifreeze, 2.5 gallon containers or less; Motor oil, 2.5 gallon containers or less; Brake and transmission fluid, 2.5 gal containers or less.
Not accepted
Empty agricultural chemical containers; Compressed gas cylinders; Explosives, radioactive material; Medications; Infectious or biological wastes.
VSQGs, or very small quantity generator businesses, may also register to attend this event; however, the grant does not cover the cost of disposal for VQSGs.
The collection will take place on June 11, noon – 4 pm, Portage County Solid Waste, 600 Moore Road, Plover.

Heavy equipment will not be available to assist in unloading material. Fees are associated with this event to help offset the cost of disposal.
