PORTAGE COUNTY – Plover Kiwanis recently awarded scholarships to three Stevens Point Area Senior High Key Club seniors – Madison Hojnacki, Erin Jore and Lydia Miller.
“The Kiwanis can be proud of their support of these terrific young people. They were instrumental in the success of many worthy projects and role models for other members. I wish them well but will miss them tremendously,” Key Club advisor, Carol Colby said.
Hojnacki, daughter of Jason and Jennifer Hojnacki, will receive $500 to help her pursue a business communication and/or marketing degree at the University of Wisconsin-LaCrosse. The Wisconsin/Upper Michigan Kiwanis District Foundation is matching that award for a total of $1,000.
Hojnacki volunteered with the Wisconsin WINS project, which helps prevent sales of tobacco products to minors; the McKinley Homework Club, Farmshed and Tinsel Trail events; Big Brothers/Big Sisters; the military care package project; and warming shelter meals. She has also been involved with rugby, gymnastics, track and field, and Future Business Leaders of America.
Jore, daughter of Daniel and Katie Jore, will receive $250 to use for her finance, economics, and law degrees, which will begin at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities. She participated in a number of Key Club activities including making tie blankets for the Family Crisis Center; preparing warming shelter meals; serving at Place of Peace; and creating cards for the elderly, ailing children, and veterans.
Jore was also active with the student senate, National Honor Society, curling, volleyball, and soccer.
Miller, daughter of Dean and Jean Miller, will also receive $250 to help in her pursuit of a medical degree at the University of Minnesota-Rochester. Miller served as the Key Club vice president and had extensive involvement with Place of Peace and the warming shelter.
She also was a National Honor Society member; volunteered with Community Partners; and was on the curling, soccer, and volleyball teams.
