Project Fresh Start school supply registration opens
For the City Times
STEVENS POINT – Family registration for Project Fresh Start is now open.
Project Fresh Start is a United Way of Portage County Volunteer Center program that provides school supplies to qualifying students.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the concern for the safety of families and volunteers, there will not be a distribution event in August. Instead, school supplies will be delivered to each school and families will receive supplies via school staff members.
Families will still need to register to receive supplies in order for United Way to determine the amount of supplies needed.
In early August, families will receive a confirmation letter in the mail providing additional information on how to receive supplies and contact information for each school. School staff members will be notified of which students registered to receive supplies.
Registration is open through July 24 for any 4K-12 student enrolled in a Portage County school; online registration and printable registration forms can be found at www.volunteersrock.org/pfs.
To receive supplies, students must qualify for the federal free and reduced-priced meal program through their school. More than 3,000 students in Portage County will be eligible to receive supplies through Project Fresh Start. Last year Project Fresh Start served more than 900 students in Portage County.
“Project Fresh Start is vital in making sure all students begin the school year ready to learn,” said United Way of Portage County Community Services Coordinator Kelly Skeels. “We know that this new design for Project Fresh Start may cause some concern for families, but we want to assure them that they will receive the needed school supplies.”
