PORTAGE COUNTY – As state law’s change and shops begin to open their doors to the public, the Gazette is reaching out to local businesses that have gone from curbside pickups to welcoming patrons inside. See how the shops that were closed just weeks ago are reopening.
Putt-N-Play
Putt-N-Play reopened their doors to the public on May 15. Co-owner Aloha Seitz said that the opening came just in time and that the family-fun center has seen a “steady trickle” of guests since welcoming the public back in.
“We felt hope,” said Seitz. “It came about at just the right time for us. If we were to prolong this any longer than we have, I think that small businesses like ours would suffer, things can really go under.”
Staff members are sanitizing all putters, balls, arcade games, laser tag gear, and offering sanitizer to guests. Seitz noted the location’s “Oculus Quest” services and kids play area are still shut down.
Social distancing guidelines will be enforced during hours of operation.
Green Thumb Alternatives
Green Thumb Alternatives opened to the public on May 11. Shop owner Derek Ertel said that the ability to reopen the CBD store came as a surprise to him when he heard the news.
“I opened midday Monday right after I read the new guidelines,” Ertel said. “Since I have reopened, we have been a lot busier, and even people from other states that are still quarantined have come to get products because the stores and dispensaries near them have not been able to open.”
Ertel sanitizes the counters, registers, and products at the shop regularly. He also put up markers on the floor to help customers follow social distancing guidelines.
While stores continue to reopen across the county, Ertel looks forward to what he hopes will be a bright future.
“We are all small businesses, and need each other to keep us going, bringing in people, new events, ideas, and keeping the community vibrant,” Ertel explained.
