PORTAGE COUNTY — Black smoke rolled out of the Kohl’s parking lot in Crossroads Commons on June 15 as fire crews battled flames that engulfed a parked semi truck.
Plover Fire Chief Mark Dever told the Gazette the fire started around 4:30 p.m.
Crews were still on site battling the smoldering remains of the truck at 5:30 p.m.
“The driver was in the sleeper at the time of the fire and got out safely,” Dever said. “He had a delivery in Stevens Point, and he was just taking a nap when it started.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. No one was hurt during the incident.
Village of Plover Fire Department crews were on site during the fire.
