Portage County Citizen’s Academy cancelled
For the City Times
PORTAGE COUNTY – The 2020 running of Portage County’s Citizen’s Academy has been cancelled.
Each year the Portage County Sheriff’s Department, city of Stevens Point Police Department, village of Plover Police Department, and the city of Stevens Point Fire Department team up to offer a Citizen’s Academy. Citizen’s Academy is a program aimed at giving the citizens of Portage County an understanding of what emergency services do on a day-to-day basis through lecture and hands-on experience.
“Unfortunately, it has been decided to cancel the fall 2020 Citizen’s Academy,” a program release said. “The health and welfare of the citizens of Portage County is our highest priority. The decision to cancel 2020 Citizen’s Academy was made based on recent health concerns of COVID-19.
“Our goal is to run the annual academy again in fall of 2021. We would like to thank everyone for their interest in the Portage County Citizen’s Academy and look forward to future academies.”
