Testing identifies 36 covid cases
County, National Guard collect 578 samples

On Sept. 22, Portage County Health and Human Services (PCCHS)-Division of Public Health provided free community testing with assistance from the Wisconsin National Guard, during which 578 samples were collected.
Of the 578 samples collected, 36 were identified as positive cases. Of the 36 positive cases, 26 of the cases were Portage County residents and 10 were from other jurisdictions. Two of the samples collected were not analyzed.
PCCHS broke down those tested by occupation, resulting in: student, 15.6 percent; health care worker, 11.1 percent; laborer, 6.7 percent; education, 4.7 percent; unemployed, 2.1 percent; unknown, 27.3 percent; service, 11.8 percent; professional, 10.6 percent; retired, 5.7 percent; self-employed, 3.1 percent; and safety, 1.4 percent.
According to DHS numbers, Portage County is currently identified as having a very high COVID-19 case activity level, with a very high case burden of 718.3 per 100,000.
