STEVENS POINT –Two people were arrested after leading Stevens Point Police Department officers on a chase through Stevens Point.
“On Nov. 7, at approximately 11:43 a.m., SPPD officers attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a vehicle for reckless driving and following too closely, in the area of Michigan Avenue and Clark Street. When officers turned on their lights and sirens, the vehicle fled the area attempting to lose the squad car. The suspect vehicle drove through residential neighborhoods at high rates of speed, and running stop signs. Due to pedestrians in the area the pursuit was terminated for the safety of the public,” a SPPD release stated.
The vehicle was later seen driving into Iverson Park in Stevens Point. Officers blocked park exits and located the vehicle inside the park.
One male and one female were taken into custody on multiple charges.
Portage County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol assisted at the scene.
