Green Circle gets greener
Section of Stevens Point trail relocated

The Green Circle just got a bit “greener,” according to Stevens Point city staff.
A new 2,000-foot section of trail was forged by city crews last week, diverting a portion of the Green Circle off of the asphalt pathways in Bukolt Park and into the area’s green space.
“This new section of trail is an effort to relocate the existing trail which followed along the Bukolk Park asphalt road and to make it greener,” said Stevens Point Parks Director Dan Kremer. “This is being achieved by rerouting it through the park, off the road, and into the new land that was acquired by the North Central Conservancy Trust on the corner of Rachick Road and Old Wausau Road.”
The conservancy acquired the land in 2019 and has continually worked to improve the property’s green spaces. The group has recently been working on eradicating the space’s buckthorn issue, to remove the invasive plant.
Kremer noted that the process of creating a trail is time consuming and can be difficult.
“City crews performed the clearing and land preparation work in increments when time allowed throughout the summer of 2020,” Kremer explained.
The new segment of the Green Circle was made possible through the combined efforts of the North Central Conservancy Trust, the city of Stevens Point, and the Green Circle Trail Committee. Funding for the project came from donations raised by the Green Circle Trail Committee.
“This project is a great example of collaboration that benefits the community. We continue to create and improve our first-class recreational amenities within the city of Stevens Point and surrounding areas,” Kremer added.
