Cross country ski programs for youth
Racing and recreational teams recruiting in Iola
For the Gazette
Iola Winter Sports Club (IWSC) is offering two cross country ski programs for area youth grades 5-12: race and recreational.
“The goal for both programs is for kids to gain an appreciation for Nordic skiing as a life-long sport.
The race team is geared toward high school and middle school athletes who want to learn to be a better, faster and more efficient skier by training and working hard,” a program release stated.
Race team members should have basic Nordic skiing skills, but do not need to be ‘expert level.’ The race team practices Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 5:15-6:45 p.m., at IWSC under the lights, and will compete most weekends at venues around Wisconsin. Formal practice starts in early December.
The recreational team is for the high school and middle school athlete who wants to ski, learn to ski, or isn’t sure about training and racing.
Recreational team practices are on Monday and Thursday, 5:15-6:45 p.m., under the lights, beginning the first week in January. There is an option to race in two home races on the IWSC trails.
