Tuesdays with the Mayor: A weekly update with Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza

By Taylor Hale
STEVENS POINT – Mayor Mike Wiza sat down with Gazette staff to give an update on Stevens Point developments. Wiza touched on how the new year has changed with social distancing and how to get out and have fun this winter.
A new type of new year
Now that “normal” is social distancing and masks, Wiza said that the community should find alternatives when celebrating events.
Wiza noted that while many may not be able to gather in large groups with family and friends, the public can still find ways to enjoy their time.
Winter Fun
The Iverson Winter Sports Area is open to the public. The sledding hill and ice skating rink are available, but the toboggan lanes and buildings are currently closed.
The skating rinks at Goerke Park, Emerson Park, and downtown are also ready for skaters.
The K.B. Willett Ice Arena offers public skating hours on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday on a first-come-first-serve 50 person capacity. Masks are required. Rentals are available. To learn more, visit stevenspoint.com/179/KB-Willett-Ice-Arena.
