For the City Times

PORTAGE COUNTY – The Portage County Board of Supervisors has adopted an ordinance designating all Portage County-owned roads as all-terrain vehicle (ATV) routes. The routes were effective Jan. 13.

“The routes apply for both ATVs and Utility-Terrain Vehicles (UTVs) and the ordinance restricts the speed to a maximum of 35 mile per hour. In addition, all ATV and UTV operators shall have a liability insurance policy in force covering any ATV or UTVs operated on county roads,” a release from Portage County Highway Commissioner Nathan Check stated.

“Please note that this ordinance only covers ATV and UTV usage on the county road system and any local town, village, or city within Portage County may have different restrictions.”

Additional state regulations can be found on the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources website at https://dnr.wisconsin.gov/topic/atv.
