UW-Stevens Point men’s hockey head coach Tyler Krueger has announced the team captain and assistant captains for the 2020-21 season.
Senior Ryan MacKellar (Indianapolis, IN) has been named captain while junior Jordan Fader (Rice Lake) and fellow senior Zach Zech (South Lyon, MI) will be assistant captains.
MacKellar played in all 28 games for the Pointers in 2019-20. He scored five goals, including the game-winner against Saint John’s. He added 11 assists.
MacKellar has skated in 71 career games for UWSP and had an assist in the 2019 National Championship game.
Zech picked up ACHA All-America second team and All-WIAC first team honors last season. He was second on the team with 16 goals and 30 points. He scored the game-winning goal at UW-Superior on Jan. 30, one of two nights in which he racked up three points on the season. Zech has 77 points in 84 career games at UWSP.
Fader skated in all 28 games in 2019-20 for the Pointers. He scored four goals, including a pair of game winners, both against UW-Stout. Fader tallied seven assists, including a season-high two in the win at Bethel. He has 11 goals in 42 games over his first two seasons with the Pointers.
Krueger enters his fourth season at the helm of the Pointers with a career record of 68-13-8. He guided UWSP to the first-ever unbeaten DIII season and the National Championship in 2019. His team continues to prepare for a potential return to play in February.
