WIAC makes February return of winter sports official

MADISON – The Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Council of Chancellor’s made it unanimous in voting for the official return to winter sports in February.
UW-Stevens Point athletics will begin with four sports in action on Feb. 3, with the Pointers women’s basketball team and men’s hockey team opening at home that night and women’s hockey team and men’s basketball team on the road.
UWSP’s men’s wrestling team’s first action is on the road Feb. 5 with the UWSP track and field and swimming and diving squad beginning Feb. 6. Full schedules are posted to athletics.uwsp.edu.
Men’s and Women’s Basketball
Teams will be divided into two divisions –East Division: UW-Oshkosh, UW-Platteville, UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater | West Division: UW-Eau Claire, UW-La Crosse, UW-River Falls and UW-Stout.
Each team will play two games against each divisional opponent, as well as two games against one cross-over opponent, for a total of eight games. All eight teams will qualify for the WIAC Championships that begin on March 1. The winner of the conference tournament receives an automatic NCAA bid. The NCAA Division III Championships are scheduled to start March 11.
Men’s and Women’s Ice Hockey
Women’s teams will play an eight-game conference schedule and all five teams will participate in the WIAC Championship/O’Brien Cup.
Men’s teams will play a 10-game conference schedule and all six teams will compete in the WIAC Championship/Commissioner’s Cup. The NCAA Division III Championships are scheduled to begin March 10 for women and March 18 for men.
Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Teams will compete in meets until March 6.
The WIAC Championships, originally scheduled to be hosted by UW-Platteville Feb. 26-27, have been cancelled. The NCAA Division III Championships are currently scheduled to be held March 12-13 at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, OH.
Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving
Teams will participate in dual meets until March 6.
The WIAC Championships, originally scheduled to be hosted by UW-Stevens Point at Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Feb. 17-20, have been cancelled. The NCAA Division III Championships are currently scheduled for March 17-20 at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center in Federal Way, WA.
Wrestling
Teams will compete in a dual-meet schedule until Feb. 19.
The WIAC Championship, originally scheduled to be hosted by UW-Oshkosh on Feb. 13, has been cancelled. UW-Eau Claire is currently scheduled to host the NCAA Division III Upper Midwest Regional Feb. 26-27, while UW-La Crosse is currently scheduled to host the NCAA Division III Championship March 12-13 at the La Crosse Center.
Women’s Gymnastics
Teams will participate in dual meets until April 3.
The WIAC Championship, originally scheduled to be hosted by UW-Oshkosh on March 12, has been cancelled. The National Collegiate Gymnastics Association previously announced that its championship has been cancelled. The event was scheduled to be hosted by Winona State University.
