Main Street chilled: Guu’s opens outdoor igloos

PORTAGE COUNTY – Have you ever wanted to eat outside on a patio during a Wisconsin winter snowstorm? Well, you might want to now.
Guu’s On Main Street opened their new “Guu-zebo” seating options on Feb. 3, and the public has been biting at the chance to eat in these new outdoor igloos.
“People can get the ‘Guu-zebo’ experience,” said co-owner of Guu’s Nicki Gulan, who runs the popular bar and grill with her husband, Scott. “It’s $100 to rent for an hour and a half, and that includes a $50 food and beverage credit.”
These outdoor seating igloos have taken off in cities like Wausau and Appleton, but Gulan said she thinks they are the first of their kind in Stevens Point. The Guu-zebos sit up to six guests and are equipped with heaters and lights.
“Everyone really loves them so far. There was a lot of excitement building up to when we opened them,” Gulan said. “I think with COVID, any experience you can have outside the home that is different and safe is exciting.”
While the outdoor seating offers guests a chance to break up the monotony of winter and COVID-19, Gulan also sees the structures working their way into peoples’ spring dining plans.
“We plan to have them up as long as we can use them. It’s our first year, so we are not sure, but I could see sitting out there in March or April if it is raining and cool outside,” Gulan said.
