School board approves Ben Franklin and Bliss Center repairs

STEVENS POINT – Building improvements were unanimously approved for Ben Franklin Junior High and the Bliss Educational Services Center by the Stevens Point Area Public School Board on March 8.
Improvements at Ben Franklin include asphalt paving, plumbing, electrical work, general construction, and roofing.
The total cost of the repairs for Ben Franklin came in at just over $3 million – $3,291,532 and $696,815.
To date, the Ben Franklin budget is under by $697,000.
Bliss Educational Services Center will be receiving a new roof this fall. The cost of repairs come to $201,230.
The roof will be replaced by Mauer Roofing and repairs will include roofing material, roof drains, and the patching of wet insulation.
Public attendance and comments
On March 8, the board also voted to allow public attendance and public comments at future school board meetings.
Throughout the pandemic, the public has been encouraged to attend board meetings virtually and public comments have been limited to 100 word email statements.
The board will continue to accept public comments submitted via email, but the public will also be able to comment on agenda items in person. Members of the public are able to speak for three minutes.
Attendees will be required to wear a mask and social distance.
Board meetings will be moved to SPASH, 1201 North Point Dr., Stevens Point, to accommodate social distancing.
