Tomorrow River Community Virtual School opens enrollment
For the Gazette
PORTAGE COUNTY – The Tomorrow River Community Virtual School (TRCVS) has started enrolling students for the 2021-22 school year.
“First opening in the fall of 2017, this online-based school continues to expand its tuition-free programming to pre-kindergarten through eighth grade students throughout the state of Wisconsin,” a program release stated.
“This online-based school is attractive to traveling families and families that are interested in homeschooling but might not feel totally comfortable teaching their children on their own.
“Interest spiked this last year as families looked for alternative methods of education while navigating life with children in a pandemic. Students receive about 2-3 hours of instruction via the internet by a DPI certified teacher. The specials classes, such as Spanish, Practical Arts, and Music, are delivered via a virtual classroom as well. Families are invited to participate in field trips throughout Wisconsin and are encouraged to attend festivals at the school’s physical site in Central Wisconsin.”
TRCVS was the second school to open under the umbrella of the Tomorrow River Community Charter Schools (TRCCS), located at the Central Wisconsin Environmental Station in Amherst Junction, 15 miles east of Stevens Point.
It occupies the summer camp during the off-season and utilizes the cabins as classrooms.
“When the class sizes were nearing their limits of the small buildings, TRCCS looked to expand into a space that had no limits – cyber space. Since then TRCCS has launched a middle school (TRCMS) that is also currently enrolling students,” the release added.
“All schools are guided by the Core Principles of Waldorf education in their curriculum. Waldorf is a tried and true method of educating that has been practiced around the world for 100 years. It focuses on delivering the same academic standards found in traditional schools with non-traditional methods all while encouraging curiosity and wonder for the world. Singing, art, movement in nature, and practical life skills are all part of the daily activities a Waldorf student experiences and learns through.”
Open enrollment ends April 30.
