STEVENS POINT – UW-Stevens Point head football coach Greg Breitbach recently announced the hiring of Jake Kulig as the Pointers defensive line coach and Lenny Smith as linebackers coach for the 2021 season.

Prior to arriving at UMHB, he spent three seasons as an assistant coach at Susquehanna University. There, he worked with outside linebackers and the defensive line. With the River Hawks, he coached two all-conference players and a pair of Team Defensive Rookies of the Year. While at UMHB, he helped the defense rank first in the Centennial Conference two of his three years.
Kulig was a three-year letterwinner for St. John Fisher as a defensive lineman. He helped the Cardinals to three-straight ECAC Bowl appearance and a berth into the quarterfinals of the NCAA DIII Championship in 2013. St. John Fisher went 34-12 during his time on the team. Kulig had 39 tackles, including two sacks, in 25 career games.

His coaching duties included teaching the skills, techniques and strategies of a 3-4 defense while assisting with weekly game preparation. Smith signaled defensive calls during practices and games. He also coordinated and scheduled JV games.
