REEDSBURG – Junior Bree Downie (Hortonville) shot a WIAC Championship record 69 in the final round of the conference championships to move up and take second among individuals. The UW-Stevens Point women’s golf team shot an identical third round score as the team above and finished in fifth.
Downie’s championship record round of 69 got her to within four strokes of the individual champion. She edged out the third-place finisher by one stroke. Downie’s second-place finish the best for UWSP since Mary Welch won the individual title in 2011. Her score of 227 for the tournament is tied for the third-best score since the event went to three rounds in 2008.
Brooke Tuszka (Plover) cut two strokes off her second round score with an 85 in the final round. She tied for 21st.  Grace Nemecek (Greenleaf) shot an 87, six strokes better than her first and second rounds. Jenny Marshall (Stoughton) had a final round score of 88, 11 strokes lower than her second round. She was named to the WIAC All-Sportsmanship team.
UW-Whitewater beat UW-La Crosse by 38 strokes to secure the team title.
UWW’s Kristin Bowe won the individual title by just four strokes over Downie after Bowe registered a final round score of 79.
