100 Years
Robert Wilson of Stevens Point was in charge of a road crew which was constructing a stretch of road on the town line between the towns of Amherst and New Hope.
An appeal was made in Rosholt for the organization of a baseball team for the summer season. J.G. Rosholt promised the use of a piece of ground adjoining the park for a diamond.
Nicholas L. Gross, son of Mr. & Mrs. Victor J. Gross, Stevens Point, was ordained into the Catholic priesthood at St. Francis seminary, near Milwaukee.
20 Years
John and Patty Noel of Stevens Point, co-founders and owners of Travel Guard International and the Noel Group, pledged $1 million to help fund the addition to the Fine Arts Center at UWSP.
Stevens Point and Portage County were shaken by the news of the death of Scott Schultz. The 51-year-old former Stevens Point mayor suffered a heart attack at his residence.

At an awards luncheon of the Wisconsin Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) State Conference in Madison, two Jefferson School students, Hope Mahon and Emily Luetschwager, were honored for their American history essays.
The Portage County Business Council held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the opening of the Best Western Plover Hotel and Conference Center.
Anne (Derezinski) Fluno, a 1959 graduate of Maria High School, was named the 2011 recipient of the Stevens Point Area Catholic Schools Distinguished Alumni Award.
