STEVENS POINT – The band from Stevens Point Area Senior High School performed their first show in over a year on May 26 in the Pfiffner Bandshell. The concert featured the Combined Bands, Wind Ensemble, Jazz II, Wind Symphony, and Jazz I. The concert was well attended by parents and community members alike.
Everyone was excited to be playing together again, but for seniors, there was some bitter-sweetness to their final concert. Jacinda Collins, SPASH Senior, has been playing in the band since the sixth grade. Collins was looking forward to performing again but admitted her last concert will be, “kind of sad, happy sad.” Collins was most excited to perform the song “Chameleon” with the Jazz 1 band.
“It feels more important than any other concert. It’s our last one, and our only one this year.”
added SPASH senior, Nicholas Anderson, said.
During the concert, Cassidy Harlan was honored as the year’s Outstanding Senior. Harlan took over for band director, Brad Schmidt, and directed the band as they played the Avengers theme song. Matthias Rudnick, another SPASH Senior, was happy just to have the opportunity to perform again.
“It’s a little melancholy, but mostly I’m excited that we get something. I’m going to take what I can get,” Rudnick said.
