Local postsecondary schools to receive emergency grant funding
For MMC
MADISON – The U.S. Department of Education (ED) has announced more than $36 billion in emergency grants provided under the American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act for postsecondary education. These grants will help over 5,000 institutions of higher education (institutions), including Mid-State Technical College and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
The funding will help local institutions cope with financial fallout from COVID-19 and continue serving their students. At least half of the funding each institution receives will be distributed in the form of emergency cash assistance grants to students who are facing hunger, homelessness, and other hardship.
Mid-State Technical College will receive $ 5,884,728 and the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point will receive $18,002,658.
“The American Rescue Plan funds will be used to help as many UW-Stevens Point students as possible. This federal support is especially helpful to our students during the pandemic, and we know it’s appreciated as they display resilience to complete their degrees,” said University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point Chancellor Thomas Gibson.
Students should contact their institutions for more information about how they can apply for an emergency grant.
