For the City Times
STEVENS POINT – Heid Music, The UWSP Aber Suzuki Institute, Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, and CREATE Portage County are teaming up to create a new musical experience in Central Wisconsin.

Make Music Day, an international day of public performance, will invite musicians to play and sing at various locations around Downtown Stevens Point on June 21, 6-8 p.m.

“Central Wisconsin musicians have the opportunity to perform alone or as a part of a group at 12 pre-determined public locations in Downtown Stevens Point, transforming alleys, backends of businesses, bus stops, and vacant spaces into music venues. Jam sessions are also highly encouraged and Heid Music will be providing access to easy-to-master instruments for people looking to join in on the fun,” a CREATE Portage County release stated.

Musicians interested in claiming a space should register by June 14th at www.createportagecounty.org.

“Adding depth to the experience, the UWSP Aber Suzuki Center & American Suzuki Institute, Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, and Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra will take over the Mathias Mitchell Square with showcase performances throughout the event,” the release added.

“Make Music Day is a movement that celebrates music of all levels and genres in a public setting. The event is designed to inspire more public performances and connect more local musicians to the community around them. The collaborative effort is excited to show off Stevens Point’s great busking spaces in hopes that music fills the downtown more often.”

Make Music Day is a collaborative event, made possible by Heid Music, The UWSP Aber Suzuki Institute, Central Wisconsin Youth Symphony Orchestra, Central Wisconsin Symphony Orchestra, and CREATE Portage County.
