D1 Brewing Company hosts beer launch and bike ride
By Taylor Hale
STEVENS POINT – Beer and bike fans gather to celebrate the release of District 1 Brewing Company’s newest pale ale, titled Pedal On, on June 11. The brew was named after local entrepreneur and environmental advocate Trevor Roark.
Roark started Curbwise LLC. in September 2020 after losing his job at UW-Stevens Point. The business offers bicycle power-delivery services for area residents. Giving locals a green alternative when getting goods delivered.
District 1 picked Roark as the story behind their latest ale but has also highlighted other local figures and hotspots like the Boy With the Boot, Eight Ender, and their Red Owl Amber.
“It is everything from humbling to exciting. It’s amazing a small business that I basically grew from nothing has gained this much reputation already,” Roark said in an interview.
The release was prefaced with a roughly 3-mile bike ride, led by Roark and his delivery tricycle. The ride saw guests leaving from and returning to District 1.
Curbwise currently makes deliveries for the Co-Op, Farmshed, Meet the Herb Halfway, Zest, Whitefeather Organics, Liberation Farms, Cattail Organics, Kindred Spirit Books, the Mission LLC, Agora Makers Market, Diversi-tea, and more. Roark is still working on creating future partnerships, allowing him to deliver an even wider range of goods and produce.
For the story behind the beer, here’s another look from the can label:
“After losing his job due to the pandemic, Trevor Roark founded Curbwise to deliver goods via bicycle power.
Pedaling groceries, CSA shares, clothing, equipment, and more all over Stevens Point & Plover … You name it – he’s cranking it out! In celebrating the creative resilience that Curbwise represents, we crafted this beer and encourage you to Pedal On.”
Pedal On can be purchased at District 1 Brewing Company and select other locations.
District 1 is located at 200 Division Street, Stevens Point. To learn more about Curbwise LLC, visit: gocurbwise.com.
