PORTAGE COUNTY – City leaders proclaimed July 15 as 715 Day. The new celebration is intended to support 715 area code businesses throughout Portage County.

The initiative was founded by local yoga instructor Lisa Lee-Oswald of Plover Yoga. Alder Polly Dalton reached out to her peers to make the day of local support a reality.

“It’s a great idea. I want to give credit to everybody that was involved,” said Stevens Point Mayor Mike Wiza. “It’s designed to show community pride, and it’s bigger than the Stevens Point community because it is all of 715.”

Wiza said that support can come in many forms, from patronizing a local business to writing a positive review, support comes through many avenues.

The city’s proclamation read: “We ask that you celebrate by sending thank you letters to local businesses, sharing exceptional customer service experiences on social media.”

Wiza encourages those who participate in the day of support to post how they participated on his social media pages.
