Area Senior Receives P.E.O. STAR Scholarship

STEVENS POINT – Pacelli Senior, Madeline Wojchik, has been awarded a $2,500 STAR Scholarship through P.E.O. This scholarship is awarded to young women who “exhibit excellence in leadership, academics, extracurricular activities, community service, and potential for future success.” In order to be eligible for the scholarship, one must be a young woman who is a legal, permanent resident of the United States or Canada, have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and be recommended by a P.E.O. Chapter.
Madeline is the daughter of Brian and Carrie Wojchik and was recommended by Chapter ES, Stevens Point. She is a member of the recently graduated Pacelli Senior Class of 2021. Madeline is an exceptional student with a 4.16 weighted GPA. Her leadership skills developed as head of Pacelli’s student tutoring group, as a member of Pacelli’s Junior/Senior Leadership Team, as well as other extracurriculars. Through her artistic abilities, she has donated some of her paintings to a local nursing home, and had her artwork displayed at regional art galleries. Madeline plans to pursue a double major in Communication Sciences and Disorders and Music with a minor in Spanish at the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point in the fall.
P.E.O. is one of the oldest women’s organizations in North America, having been founded in 1869 on the campus of Iowa Wesleyan College in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. The mission of the P.E.O. Sisterhood is to promote educational opportunities for women and help them realize their full potential in whatever endeavor they choose. Since its founding, P.E.O. has helped more than 116,000 women pursue educational goals by providing $383 million in scholarships, grants, loans, and awards. Education is the primary philanthropy of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, which sponsors a total of six international philanthropies, or projects, to help women attain an education.
