STEVENS POINT – UW-Stevens Point head cross country and track and field coach Brett Witt recently announced a couple of additions to the coaching staff – Sylviann Momont, of Auburndale, and Lauren Zaglifa. Momont has been named an assistant coach while Zaglifa joins the staff as the Larry Aschebrook Track and Field and Cross Country Graduate Assistant Coach.
Momont joins the Pointers staff after a stellar career that included six All-American finishes at the NCAA Championships. She earned All-American honors twice each in the indoor pentathlon, the outdoor heptathlon and the high jump. Momont is the UWSP record holder in both the pentathlon and heptathlon. She won WIAC titles five times and was named the WIAC Field Performer of the Meet for both indoor and outdoor in 2019. Additionally,
Momont was the 2018-19 and 2020-21 Subway Female Individual Sport Athlete of the Year at UWSP.
“Sylviann’s familiarity with our track and field program, as well as her passion for UW-Stevens Point and our teams is what really separated her from the rest of the candidates,” said Witt. “I am thrilled that we are able to keep her in the Pointer family and I am confident that she will transition seamlessly from helping our team succeed as an athlete to helping us succeed as a coach.”
A native of Auburndale, Momont completed her bachelor of science degree in business management in 2020 and will complete her master’s degree in business administration in August 2021.
Zaglifa comes to UWSP after completing a standout four-year career at Marshall University in West Virginia. As a freshman at MU, she was the first pole vaulter on the track team after several years of absence in this event. She made an immediate impact breaking the school record in the event three times each during the indoor and outdoor season. Zaglifa also became the first pole vaulter in Marshall history to earn points at the indoor conference championship and to clear the bar at the outdoor conference championship. During her sophomore season, Zaglifa broke the school record again during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. This spring, Zaglifa again broke the school record and became the first in school history to clear the bar at four meters, a mark that qualified her for the first round of the NCAA Championships.
“Similar to Sylviann, what really made Lauren stand out was that she didn’t just want to be a graduate assistant, she wanted to be a graduate assistant at Stevens Point,” continued Witt. “On top of that, she has a strong desire to be a coach, learn from us and take the next step in becoming a full-time coach herself and I couldn’t be more excited to have her join our staff.”
Originally from Wausau, Zaglifa earned a bachelor of science degree in health science from Marshall in May 2021.
