Tuesdays with the Mayor: July 19

STEVENS POINT – Mayor Mike Wiza sat down with Gazette staff to give an update on Stevens Point developments. Wiza touched on a military convoy passing through the city and an upcoming fundraiser.
Military convoy passes through Point
The Military Vehicle Preservation Association’s Historic Military Convoy rolled through Portage County on Aug. 1.
The convoy boasted around 40 military vehicles, some as old as 1918 with other vehicles dating back to the 1990s.
Wiza said the convoy helps preserve military history and made a great public outing for area families. Point Brewery donated a soda to each of the passengers and drivers partaking in the convoy.
Cookout for Veterans
The Portage County Guns and Hoses event unites the Stevens Point Police Department, Portage County Sheriff’s Office, Stevens Point Fire Department, and Plover Police Department.
This year’s event is forgoing the traditional softball game, but great food is still on the menu. Burgers, brats, and more will be sold to help raise money for the Portage County Allied Veterans Council Veterans Relief Fund to aid veterans in need.
“It’s a great event but things are a little bit different yet this year,” Wiza said. “But we still hope to see people come out for a great cause.”
