Boston School Forest Family Fun Run/Walk returns on Aug. 27

STEVENS POINT – The Boston School Forest Family Fun Run/Walk is returning on Aug. 27 for a second year after a cancellation due to COVID-19 in 2020.
The event offers families a fun way to get outdoors and get active in a friendly and safe environment. This year’s walk/run features rolling strats, meaning families can arrive anytime from 4:30 to 6 p.m. to enter.
The 1.75-mile course has a combination of gravel, grass, wood chips, and dirt trails.
“The purpose of the event is to give families an opportunity to be both active and outdoors,” said Program Leader Karla Lockman. “The Town of Plover Tourism Commission and local businesses completely sponsor the event so there is no cost. Some people have said we should make this into a fundraising event for the forest, but we didn’t want our events to be limited based on ability to pay a fee. And thanks to our sponsors, we can make that happen.”
Lockman said that the event started when an intern suggested creating a fun walk around the Boston School Forest Grounds.
Roughly 170 guests came for the first Family Fun Run/Walk in 2019, and Lockmans expects a large turnout again this year. Snacks and drinks will be available on site. T-shirts will be available on a first-come-first -serve basis.
The Family Fun Run/Walk will take place at the Boston School Forest grounds, located at 5084 Lincoln Ave., Plover. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. and ends at 7 p.m.
