Portage County Sheriff’s Office arrests suspect in Village of Amherst

PORTAGE COUNTY – On July 28, shortly after 6:00 p.m., the Portage County Sheriff’s Office received information from the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office about the possible location of a homicide suspect. Information provided indicated the homicide suspect may be at an address in the Town of Amherst.
After further investigation, a vehicle left the suspected residence. That vehicle was stopped in the Village of Amherst by Portage County deputies at approximately 8:30 p.m. 44-year old male, Khamthaneth Rattanasack, fled from the vehicle and was apprehended by deputies after a brief foot pursuit.
The suspect was arrested for an arrest warrant through La Crosse County and no injuries were reported by anyone involved. Rattanasack was transported to the Portage County Sheriff’s Office and later turned over to La Crosse County authorities.
The Portage County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Portage County Ambulance, Stevens Point Police Department, Plover Police Department, and the Waushara County Sheriff’s Office.
