STEVENS POINT – Mayor Mike Wiza sat down with Gazette staff to give an update on Stevens Point developments. Wiza touched on the fall paving project and a citywide revaluation.
City leaders select American Asphalt for fall paving project
City leaders unanimously approved selecting American Asphalt for the upcoming roughly $237,000 fall paving project. The decision was made during a council meeting on Aug. 16.
Alder Shaun Morrow (D11) made the motion to award the project to the group.
The project areas are West Gates Drive, Echo Dells Avenue, Miller Court, Gilkay Avenue, Five alleys between Ellis and Jefferson Street and Michigan and Frontenac Avenue.
City moves forward with citywide revaluation
City leaders unanimously approved a motion allowing the city to work with the contracted assessment firm, Forward Appraisal, to complete a citywide revaluation of assessed property values. The project was approved during a city meeting on Aug. 16.
Revaluation is the process of inspecting, identifying, and revaluing all properties within a municipality. The purpose of a revaluation is to create equitable assessments at market current value.
The process is slated to start in the August of 2022 and be completed in the summer of 2023.
According to Director of Community Development Ryan Kernosky, “If the City chooses not to perform a Revaluation in 2023, and we remain in non-compliance with WI-DOR regulation, we may be subject to a State-supervised assessment revaluation in 2024. At that point, the City has almost no control over the process and review of the Revaluation, and we end up paying the costs associated with the supervised assessment.”
