For the Gazette
PORTAGE COUNTY – On Aug. 30 at approximately 4:12 p.m. a two-vehicle crash occurred on Cth P, near Clover Road, in the town of Carson. A horse-drawn carriage occupied by seven people was traveling westbound on Cth P. The operator of the carriage was a 34-year old female from the town of Eau Pleine. The six passengers were children ranging in ages from 11 months to 13 years. The horse-drawn carriage was struck from the rear by a westbound 2018 Chevrolet Equinox being driven by a 49-year old male from Marathon County.

Four occupants of the horse-drawn carriage, including the driver, suffered injuries, but they are not considered life-threatening. They were transported by ambulance to Marshfield Medical Center in Marshfield.

The operator and sole occupant of the Equinox was not injured.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Portage County Ambulance, Wisconsin State Patrol, Rudolph Fire & Rescue, and Rudolph Emergency Medical Responders. Two medical helicopters were initially dispatched to the scene but were cancelled by EMS personnel after the patients were evaluated.

The Portage County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the crash.
