STEVENS POINT – The Stevens Point Panthers football team hosted Superior on Aug. 27 for the season opener where they shutout the Superior Spartans 43-0.

The Panther quarterback, Riley Warzynski had an outstanding night with 13/17 completed passes for 262 yards, he also had a 37-yard run that ended in one of the six touchdowns the offense scored.

Tommy Drohner scored the first touchdown for the Panthers in the first quarter with a 52-yard pass. Also scoring in the first quarter were Quinton Martin who scored another touchdown in the second quarter and totaled 85 yards in receiving for the Panthers. Danny Zdroik scored on a 17-yard gain. And Peyton Pumper caught and scored on a 19-yard drive.

The Panther’s kicker, Cameron Saeger went 2-5 in extra point attempts and hit a field goal at the end of the first half. The game was then cancelled at halftime due to inclement weather.

SPASH will host Appleton West on Sept. 3, starting at 7 p.m. at Goerke Field in Stevens Point.
