Tuesdays with the Mayor: Sept. 7

STEVENS POINT – Mayor Mike Wiza sat down with Gazette staff to give an update on Stevens Point developments. Wiza touched on the teardown of the former Maytag Laundromat and other Division Street updates.
Business 51 updates move forward
Wiza said the original Pizza Hut, also known as the Maytag Laundromat on Division Street, has been removed and will be replaced with a scenic walkway, connecting the business corridor with the UW-Stevens Point campus.
The project is part of the city’s efforts to improve the Business 51 corridor and open up the area, connecting it to the college campus and offering a more welcoming area for those entering Stevens Point.
“Soon we will be reconnecting campus with the business corridor. Keep watching for the plans as they evolve,” Wiza said.
Baskin Robbins/Dunkin Donuts Update
The new Baskin Robbins and Dunkin Donuts on Division Street is nearing completion according to Wiza. City staff said the new restaurant should be open to the public by the end of September, but there is no exact date set by the proprietors.
Wiza said the new location is another addition and choice for locals when they are seeking a sweet treat or a meal when in town.
