For the City Times
PORTAGE COUNTY – Due to the success of the first After Hours Hazardous Waste Collection Event in June, Portage County Solid Waste is doing it again. On Sept. 29, staff will be staying until 5:30 p.m. for the collection of household hazardous waste. Everyone must pre-register for an appointment. Please call 715-346-1931 to schedule before all the spots fill up.

Hazardous Waste Collection Events are imperative to keeping the environment clean. They also keep residents safer and healthier by limiting their exposure to hazardous chemicals. Improper storage or disposal of hazardous items can cause fires, groundwater contamination, and injuries to people and animals through accidental poisonings.

Items accepted include automotive, garden, workshop or household products labeled as toxic, caustic, poisonous, flammable, combustible, etc. To offset the cost of disposal, residents pay $0.75/lb. apart from mercury at $3/lb. and latex paint at $1.50/lb.
